How Do I Get Medical Marijuana?

To get medical marijuana, you first need to see a qualified physician who will determine if you have a qualifying medical condition. If you do, the doctor will enter a 60-day supply of medication on your first visit. Before your next visit, we will automatically re-fill your prescription twice. If the medications don’t work and you need some changes, you must schedule an appointment with the doctor.

Renew your Medical Marijuana card 45 days before it expires. Do not renew the card before 60 days of expiration, as the State Registry will consider it a duplicate, reject the application and assess a $35 fee when re-submitting your paperwork. Do it online through the Medical Marijuana Use Registry (mmuregistry.flhealth.gov) or by mail. You’ll need to create an account, pay a $75 fee, and have your doctor re-certify you via telehealth or in-person. The renewal fee is $75. It takes 7-10 business days to process. Please call us if you have questions.

You can follow these 3 steps to apply for your medical marijuana card:

      • See a certified doctor: Get diagnosed with a qualifying condition by a licensed physician registered with the medical marijuana use registry. They’ll enter you into the registry.
      • Apply for your ID card: Fill out the online application on the website of the Department of Health along with the 75$ fee, passport photo and proof of residency to the State.
      • Wait for approval: Processing typically takes 10-14 business days. Once approved, you’ll receive your official medical marijuana ID card through mail.

Please call us if you have questions.

A medical marijuana consultation involves meeting a state-registered and qualified physician certified to recommend medical marijuana. They’ll review your medical history, discuss your qualifying condition, and assess if medical marijuana could benefit you. It’s not a prescription appointment but a discussion to determine if you meet the state’s requirements for medical marijuana use.

We have nine convenient locations in where you can find registered medical marijuana doctors. To make an appointment with a qualified Medical Marijuana Doctor today, you can browse and visit any of these locations.

Our handy guide to Medical Marijuana Dispensary makes it easy for you to see which dispensary is closest to you. Please go to our guide to see more details and find the perfect dispensary based on your convenience.

List of qualifying conditions for medical marijuana cards, including:

      • Chronic pain: Cancer, neuropathy, arthritis, and migraines.
      • Neurological disorders: Epilepsy, Parkinson’s, MS, ALS.
      • Mental health: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety, eating disorders.
      • Chronic illnesses: Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, fibromyalgia.
      • Others: Glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, muscle spasms.

This isn’t an exhaustive list; debilitating medical conditions may also qualify.

Yes, most residents can get certified and approved for a medical marijuana card the same day! Here’s the catch:

      • Schedule an appointment with a certified marijuana doctor.
      • Attend your consultation and get approved by the doctor.
      • They’ll submit your info to the state, and you’ll receive an approval email shortly after.
      • This email acts as a temporary ID until your physical card arrives in the mail.

Note: This only applies to patients, not seasonal residents, without an ID or those using alternative ID verification methods.

You can access dispensaries with temporary email approval while waiting for your physical card.

Medical marijuana card process generally takes 2-4 weeks, but here’s the breakdown:

      • Doctor Approval: 20-30 minutes for your appointment, plus potential wait times.
      • State Processing: 5-10 business days for online applications or longer for mailed ones.
      • Physical Card: Arrives in 1-2 weeks after approval.

Deciding on a medical marijuana card is personal, but here are some potential benefits to consider:

      • Potential relief: If you have a qualifying condition like chronic pain, anxiety, or muscle spasms, it may offer symptom management unavailable through traditional medications.
      • Legal access: With a card, you can legally purchase and use medical marijuana from licensed dispensaries.
      • Dosage control: Dispensaries offer various products and potencies, allowing you to find what works best for you.

Discuss your specific condition and needs with qualified marijuana doctors to determine if medical marijuana is right for you.

      Medical Marijuana Qualifying Conditions

How Can You Become Eligible for Medical Marijuana in Florida?

Obtaining a medical marijuana card in Florida requires fulfilling specific criteria. Firstly, you must be a Florida resident and diagnosed with a qualifying medical condition by a physician registered with the state’s program. After an in-person examination, the physician will enter your information into the Medical Marijuana Use Registry if you qualify. You then complete an online application, provide identification and residency proof, and pay a fee. Remember, the use of medical marijuana is strictly regulated, so consulting a healthcare professional and thoroughly reviewing the state’s guidelines is crucial before proceeding.

      Qualifying Conditions

These are the qualifying health conditions for medical marijuana treatment in Florida. It has also been identified that any condition of the same kind or class, a terminal condition, and also chronic nonmalignant pain (if caused by one or more of the qualifying medical conditions listed below or that originates from a qualifying medical condition and persists beyond the usual course of that qualifying medical condition) may qualify for medical marijuana treatment.

Medical Marijuana Access for Minors in Florida Guidelines and Restrictions

Minors in Florida can access medical marijuana under specific guidelines and restrictions. Firstly, they must have a qualifying medical condition and be registered with the state’s Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU). This requires a qualified physician registered with the program to diagnose them and submit their information. Additionally, written consent from a parent or legal guardian is mandatory before the OMMU issues an ID card.

Crucially, minors cannot purchase or administer medical marijuana themselves. A designated caregiver, who must be at least 18, is responsible for these tasks. This caregiver must undergo background checks and complete training before obtaining their own Medical Marijuana Use Registry ID card. Importantly, they are strictly prohibited from receiving any compensation beyond reimbursement for expenses.

Florida law imposes further limitations. Minors cannot purchase smokable flowers, and only specific low-THC cannabis products or other approved delivery methods are allowed. The caregiver must possess and administer the medication directly, ensuring it’s used safely and according to the doctor’s recommendations.
